Fans have their eyes on Castle Rock season 3 but have been left in the dark on any of the details. There are certainly enough people clamoring for it, but will it happen?
As of right now, Castle Rock season 3 hasn’t been renewed. What’s more concerning is that Craig Erwich, Hulu’s SVP of Scripted Originals, recently stated in an interview that, “[Hulu] has not made any further decisions” on renewing the series for a third season. This doesn’t mean that it won’t happen, however.
Both the actors and King’s characters bring the fictional town of Castle Rock to life. From Sissy Spacek in the first season to Tim Robbins in the second, there’s a lot of potential talent likely interested in making an appearance. Plus, there are enough characters and plot points from King’s writing that could easily translate into what could be several additional seasons of the show.
Castle Rock Season 3 Release Date
Given that Castle Rock season 3 has yet to be renewed, there’s no official release date. The first season premiered in late July of 2018, while the second premiered in late October of 2019, providing a sizable gap. While it would at least be easy to say that Castle Rock season 3 would premiere in the second half of the year, it wouldn’t be terribly surprising if it tried to retain a release just days before Halloween. Of course, given that there’s no green light to speak of, the premiere date could push into 2021.
Castle Rock Season 3 Story & Cast
The anthology nature of the show makes the potential story for Castle Rock season 3 hard to guess. King has a vast library of horror tales under his belt that are just begging for a film or TV adaptation. Couple that with the fact that the show runners aren’t afraid to melt pieces of the authors’ stories together, and it’s anyone’s guess as to what’s being spun for viewers if Castle Rock season 3 arrives.
It remains to be seen which Castle Rock cast and characters would return for season 3, but despite how season 2 ended, it’s likely that we’ll see the return of Bill Skarsgard as The Kid. His character has been a link between the first and second seasons, and it stands to reason that could carry on in Castle Rock season 3. And while few would complain about Lizzy Caplan returning to reprise her role as Annie Wilkes, the character received a decent send-off to what would later make her the monster she becomes in Misery.
