With Captain Marvel 2 officially moving forward, a slew of possible new looks for Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers has been revealed. Debuting in Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s Captain Marvel from 2018, MCU’s first solo headlining female hero is set to grace the big screen again for her next standalone adventure. With that, many are looking forward to see where her next movie will take her and how it’ll connect to the bigger franchise.

Production details are still scant at the moment. In fact, the project still has to lock a director, although reports suggest that Marvel Studios is particularly looking for a female helmer. Meanwhile, WandaVision writer Megan McDonnell is supposedly in the final stages of inking a deal to write the script of Captain Marvel 2. This could be an indication that the Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany-led Disney+ series will connect to the upcoming big screen project, especially with the show debuting adult Monica Rambeau. The sequel is said to be set in the current MCU timeline after her origin stories took on a prequel approach, revealing that she’s long been in the franchise but it’s just that she’s been off Earth until the events of Avengers: Infinity War unfurled.

The last time fans saw Captain Marvel was during Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey Jr.) funeral in Avengers: Endgame. While she’s only been in Captain Marvel and Joe and Anthony Russo’s culminating film, fans have seen her in a few different costume and hairdo changes. Now, Marvel Studios’ Director of Visual Development Andy Park is teasing fans what Carol’s aesthetic might be like when she returned for Captain Marvel 2. Check out his offered options shared on his official Instagram account below:

How much Marvel Studios can alter Carol’s appearance in Captain Marvel 2 hinges largely on where the events of the sequel land on the MCU timeline. In the aftermath of Thanos’s (Josh Brolin) decimation, she was sporting her mid-length hair, but when she re-emerges after the time-jump, she was wearing it much shorter - a mohawk which is reminiscent of her iconic hairdo in the comic books, a detail that didn’t go unnoticed in Endgame. If the sequel takes place shortly after Avengers 4, it doesn’t make sense to veer too far away from her most recent appearance. However, if they decide to do another significant time-jump, then another drastic hair change may be in the cards for the character.

It’s no secret Marvel Studios tends to tweak the appearances of their leading superheroes each time they star in a new film - part of it is due to wanting to sell more toys and tie-in merchandise. So it’s safe to assume that Larson will look at least a little different from the last time fans saw her in Endgame when she graces Captain Marvel 2. Regardless of what Marvel Studios want to do, Park’s creation means that there won’t be any scarcity of looks they can choose from for the superhero’s next standalone outing.
