SPOILERS for Avengers: Endgame ahead

New Avengers: Endgame fan art sees Chris Evans’ Captain America battling the actor’s past roles, including the Human Torch from Fantastic Four and Lucas Lee from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Evans officially made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, introducing Steve Rogers and depicting the character’s transformation into the titular superhero. Evans has since become one of the major stars of the MCU, leading his own Captain America trilogy and appearing in all of Marvel’s Avengers movies. Evans has also been known to cameo in other MCU movies, like portraying Loki shapeshifted into Steve Rogers in Thor: The Dark World or filming PSA videos for Spider-Man: Homecoming.

But Evans had an acting career prior to his MCU days, even if the superhero franchise skyrocketed his career following The Avengers. In the early to mid 00s, Evans starred in a number of teen movies, before landing his first superhero role, that of Johnny Storm aka. Human Torch in 2005’s Fantastic Four. In between the Fantastic Four sequel and his debut as Captain America, Evans appeared in another comic book adaptation: Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. In the 2010 movie, Evans plays Lucas Lee, one of Ramona Flowers’ seven evil exes. Now, a new piece of fan art adds Lucas Lee and Human Torch to a key Captain America moment in Avengers: Endgame.

Graphic artist BossLogic unveiled two new pieces of art that adapt the scene in Avengers: Endgame when Captain America must fight his past self in order to steal Loki’s staff. In the art, Captain America battles Lucas Lee, and in the other, he faces off against the Human Torch. Check out the art below.

Since Avengers: Endgame likely marks Evans’ final appearance as Captain America, despite co-director Joe Russo insisting he could return, fan art is one way to pay respect to the actor. Certainly, Avengers: Endgame is the end of an era for the MCU, bringing the Infinity Saga to a close and seeing the stories of many characters come to an end. In the case of Captain America’s ending, Steve returns to the 40s and lives out his life with Peggy Carter. Of course, there are ways within continuity that Evans could somehow, someday return as Steve Rogers - time travel exists, after all - but it’s likely that Evans has closed the door on his MCU days.

Still, no matter how sad fans may be to see Evans depart the MCU, the actor isn’t slowing down. Later this year, Evans will appear in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out. He’s also set to star in Antoine Fuqua’s sci-fi thriller Infinite and the Apple TV+ original series Defending Jacob, among other projects. So while Evans’ most well known role may be Captain America, the actor’s career was established before the MCU and will continue on after Avengers: Endgame.
