Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will feature a brand-new line of Special Ops missions, as confirmed through a new octane-filled trailer released for the upcoming game. Telling a reimagined story within the world established by the original Modern Warfare games, this new rendition of the beloved line of CoD titles is set to bring fans back to a setting that seems familiar–albeit with a few innovations. One of the biggest? The fact that Modern Warfare will be the first-ever Call of Duty to feature cross-play.

As a result, gamers are chomping at the bit to see more of the title, and they won’t be waiting for all that much longer. The game launches on October 25th, after all, so excited fans will have Modern Warfare in their hands relatively soon. Of course, there are still a few tricks up Activision’s sleeve ahead of launch, as the company pulled the curtain back on the latest Call of Duty’s Special Ops mode in a brand-new trailer.

Special Ops will launch with Modern Warfare later this month, and the trailer features a number of throwbacks to older games in the series. Did anyone see that swimming pool by chance? The mode itself will feature team-based missions that can be tackled in a handful of ways. For example, maybe recon followed up by a stealthy approach is the best call. Then again, going in guns blazing is fun in different ways. Depending on how players choose to tackle a mission, the A.I. will react and try to counter appropriately.

The action looks more fluid in Modern Warfare than it ever has before, and the fact that Special Ops adjusts to how gamers play it adds another level of customization. The Operations will also be interconnected and showcase a new (and encroaching) threat. This all ties into and progresses the narrative of Modern Warfare, so it looks like a fantastic little accessory to the main campaign. Plus, there’s something all too familiar and sinister teased at the end of this new trailer…

The ending looks oddly similiar to the events that led to the death of Ghost and Roach in Modern Warfare 2. So could the figure looming over the downed soldier be General Shepard? That would certainly appear to be the case. Given that this is a retelling of the Modern Warfare series, with Captain Price suited up once again, it very well could be the villanous traitor. But will the fates of Roach and Ghost change this time around? Here’s hoping. Especially since Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley is easily one of the coolest characters from the entire Call of Duty franchise.
